Vision 20/20 awarded a FEMA Fire Prevention and Safety Grant to Expand the Adoption of Community Risk Reduction in the Fire Service


 Vision 20/20, a project of the Institution of Fire Engineers-USA Branch, was awarded a two-year, FEMA Fire Prevention and Safety Grant to help expand the integration of Community Risk Reduction (CRR) practices within the U.S. fire service. 

 

Key activities that will be undertaken as part of this grant include:

  • Funding the participation of representatives from every state at the seventh Vision 20/20 Model Performance in CRR Symposium which will be held on February 22, 2022, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
  • Increase the use of the Statewide Collaboration and Engagement Framework (SCEF) that provides a mechanism at the state level for the use and adoption of CRR best-practices
  • Enhance the offerings through the free Discovery Data Hub tool developed by Vision 20/20 that communities can use in developing their Community Risk Assessments.
  • Developing and delivering CRR advocacy training programs focused on two key groups – chief fire officers and local government officials, with the objective of raising awareness about the importance of CRR.
  • Enhancements to the Youth Firesetting online training module developed by Vision 20/20 and IFSTA ResourceOne.
  • Continue the CRR Emerging Leaders mentorship program developed in partnership with the Congressional Fire Services Institute that prepares the next generation of CRR leaders for key roles in the fire service.
  • Develop additional free materials for the Vision 20/20 CRR Materials Generator that can be used by any community in promoting CRR with a special focus on non-traditional, but wide-spread, community risks.

 

“This grant will be instrumental in helping to accelerate the adoption of Community Risk Reduction in fire departments and communities across the nation,” said Vision 20/20 Project Manager Stephen Hrustich. “Through education, increased awareness and building a strong network among CRR professionals and developing free tools that they can use every day, CRR can become integrated into the daily operations of the fire service and play a significant role in making communities safer.”

 

“Vision 20/20 has been a strong partner with the Institution of Fire Engineers-USA Branch,” added IFE-USA President Nate Trauernicht. “Over the past 14 years, it has been an incredible advocate for CRR and this Fire Prevention and Safety Grant will significantly enhance the use of CRR best practices in fire departments.
