Updated Statewide PIO Contact List and More!

 1) AIOA's next virtual meeting is coming up! The next Arizona Information Officers Association’s virtual meeting will be held in August. We'll follow up soon with more details. In the meantime, if you haven't already, we encourage you to join the AIOA Facebook group. Contact Anne Ackroyd at aackroyd@azgfd.gov with any questions.

2) National WEA and EAS test on Aug 11.  FEMA and the FCC will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) on Aug 11 at 11:20 am.   Here is some information about the test  and a short video to share on social.  What does it mean to you? For those that have opted to receive alerts on their phone  . .the wireless alert will sound at 11:20.  Even though the cell phone will say “This is a test . . .” the multiple cell phones sounding may startle the public.  Just want you to be in the know.

3) PIO Training through DEMA . . .GOOD NEWS!!  DEMA PIO training will be returning in a few months in the form of the new, 3-day  Public Information Basics (0105) course..  I will share information when the details are finalized.

Background:  FEMA has restructured their PIO course offerings. The classroom courses that DEMA previously facilitated, the Basic PIO course (G290) and Joint Information Center/System course (G291), will be retired on Sept 30, 2021.   FEMA’s replacement for those courses is the 3-day  Public Information Officer Basics (0105) course (https://www.firstrespondertraining.gov/frts/npccatalog?catalog=EMI )

4)  PIO Contact list.  Attached is the updated statewide PIO contact list.  The list is divided into multiple tabs representing jurisdictional levels (city, county, federal, state and tribes) and specialties (law enforcement, fire, schools, utilities, etc).

The PIO list is a great resource because you help keep it accurate.  If you have any edits to the list please reply to this email.  If you know of someone that should be added to the list, have them contact me. Send me your agency social media information if you would like it included.

5) Facebook group (Arizona PIOs).  The Arizona Information Officers Association maintains a Facebook PIO group (Arizona PIOs) to find the latest job openings, professional development opportunities and share your knowledge with peers looking for advice on best practices. This is a closed group, you need to be part of the statewide PIO list to join. If interested, send a friend request and if you are joining under a different name please inform Anne Ackroyd, aackroyd@azgfd.gov.
